The Cleveland Indians have acquired outfielder Myles Straw from the Houston Astros in exchange for reliever Phil Maton and catcher Yainer Diaz, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic. https://twitter.com/ZackMeisel/status/1421197607884541957?s=20 Straw is a speedy outfielder who will replace Eddie Rosario, the 29-year-old who was flipped to the Braves earlier today. Through 98 games this season, he is slashing .262/.339/.326 with 34 RBI, 38 walks, and 71 strikeouts this season. He has also been a threat on the basepaths, logging 17 stolen bases thus far. Under control through 2025, Straw is earning just $590,400 this year. Maton is a right-handed reliever with a 4.57 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and .237 OBA through 38 relief outings this year. He's walked 20 batters while striking out 61. He's looked really solid as of late, allowing just four runs over his last 14.2 innings of work. The 28-year-old is eligible for arbitration through 2023. The final piece involved is Diaz, a 22-year-old catcher signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2016. He has an impressive .314/.357/.464 slash line with five homers, 50 RBI, 15 walks, and 42 strikeouts through 61 games at Single-A this year. He clearly has the potential to produce offensively and could be an impactful player for Houston down the road.
